Track of the Week: Maxxi Soundsystem

Man of the moment Huxley can do no wrong and my latest track of the week that he's put his hand to with a remix is no exception.

I don't expect many of you to recognise the sample but I know it from speed garage anthem It's the Way by L.J Project. Huxley brings it right back up to date with a house crossover that retains the garage elements showcasing a style that's big right now that you can hear in stuff coming out of the likes of Disclosure and Eats Everything.

Introducing Stella's Way - Maxxi Soundsystem (Huxley Remix), released on October 25th on vinyl, with a potential digital release soon.

Track of the Week: Luke Larrell & Victor Reid

I am SO excited about sharing my track of the week today. I first heard it a couple of months ago and have only managed to ID it last weekend! Once I'd got the details I was literally shrieking at the laptop - you can't imagine the buzz of finally finding a gem when you've been trawling through so much shit music recently.

So without further ado, I'd like to introduce London boys Luke Larrell & Victor Reid featuring Verses with their wicked track titled Serious People.

I highly recommend you turn this one up loud, its got some badass groove.

Serious People was released on 2nd July on London label Audio Rehab...

Track of the Week: Desos

The post-holiday blues have well and truly kicked in, so what better than a tune that immediately transports me back to Ibiza lying on a day bed, drink in hand as the sun is coming down...

Ghetto Love by Desos (Original Mix) is the perfect blend of deep house, a techy vibe with that lush rolling bass and finished with the smoothest saxaphone you can imagine.

Deso Records, based in Denmark,  promotes itself as "Deep and Raw" and they are bang on the money with this track. Unfortunately for the non-DJ's, this one was out on 11th June on vinyl only and I can't see any mention of a digital release at the moment.

Looks like I'll have to enjoy this one on Soundcloud for now...

Track of the Week: French Soul Party

Throwing an indie track in there this week as I'm over the moon to finally find a new band that makes me want to get stuck in down the front of a gig, bouncing up and down and singing at the top of my lungs.

Firm favourites of mine include Arctic Monkeys, Friendly Fires, Pigeon Detectives, Delphic, Fenech Soler... but its been a while since I've managed to find any decent "guitar" music as opposed to my usual house choice. My radio has been filled with whispy, warbling women or boring folky blah blah for far too long so I was as much relieved as excited to hear this track...

Apart from the obvious accent giveaway, the mention of "The Headrow" had me guessing that this was a Leeds band... not far off the mark, French Soul Party are actually from Holmfirth in Huddersfield so its nice to be supporting some local talent.

French Kissing is a perfect summer indie love song and the short 2 minutes 39 seconds forces me to hit repeat several times before I'm done with this one...

Track of the Week: Julio Bashmore

This week's track is another I discovered courtesy of the Southport Weekender I attended earlier this month. Absolutely loved it at the time but had no idea what the track was.

Now usually I use the app Shazam as a useful tool to help me ID tracks quickly when I'm out or in the car to save the embarrassment of me trying to hum or attempt to beat box them to other people.

Unfortunately at the time nothing came up for this track so I recorded a sound clip in my boyfriend's phone.  Bless him for later managing to find out what this badboy was! I absolutely love how many layers there are to this track but yet it still has a raw edge to it - with a great melody, deep bass and groove... each time I listen to it I think I hear a new sound and like something different about it.

This gem comes from Julio Bashmore (a name I've mentioned many a time before) and is the first release on his new label, Broadwalk Records, out on 2nd July. For those of you interested, the title 'Au Seve' means 'The Sap'...

I'm predicting this is going to be one of this summer's big tracks and hoping to hear it when I'm in Ibiza in two weeks!

Track of the Week - Isaac Christopher

I'm so excited to share this Track of the Week... stumbled across it yesterday thanks to following a chain of tweets, I love it when you find a gem like this!

This track comes from Isaac Christopher, the latest signing to Kerri Chandler's label Madhouse Records - a stamp of quality I'd like to think. If that isn't enough, he's been getting massive support from Numbers producer and latest Radio 1 In New DJ's We Trust signing, Mosca.

The Shake That EP is out on May 28th exclusively on Traxsource, and my favourite is the title track, the original mix... If you liked NY Stomp - The NY House Track, you'll love this one.

Its bouncy, bass heavy and its got that catchy vocal loop that any regular readers will know that I can't get enough of in a track!

Track of the Week - Tanzlife

Well what can I say? Southport Weekender 48 was absolutely incredible... from start to finish 2 days and 3 nights of the best house, soul and live music surrounded by the nicest friendliest clubbers I've ever met. Plus the sun shined in Minehead all weekend!

Highlights of the weekend from me were sets from Julio Bashmore and Andre Lodeman in the Beat Bar on Friday night. Especially hearing Andre Lodeman play his mix of Liquideep - Feel It which was earmarked for a track of the week recently but never got posted due to illness/being busy/laziness. You can't imagine how great this sounds on a loud soundsystem!



However, set of the weekend had to be from Rainer Truby who smashed it in the Beat Bar on Saturday night. The DJ was introduced to me and my boyfriend at the Suncebeat Festival last summer (Southport Weekender's sister festival in Croatia) by some music loving friends but we missed out on seeing him.
So glad we made sure to catch him this time round as his balance of deep house, melodic instrumentals and catchy vocals made for a perfect set. The crowd loved him and there was clearly a lot of fans in the room judging by the reaction when he dropped his latest tune, Horse with No Name.

Without a doubt my favourite track played by Rainer and from the whole weekend, and my Track of the Week is Tanzlife - Heart Attack. I challenge you to keep still to this one!

Track of the Week - Redlight

If you're the sort of person that thinks that all dance music is just noise that sounds the same then you're going to absolutely hate this one... if not, then read and listen on!

This week I'm loving a track by UK producer of the moment Redlight, who you may know for his recent hit Get Out My Head.


The intro to Bass Kone has a kind of carnival feel and then builds into an amazing groove with a heavy raw bassline.... love love love it!

I can't find any details of a date this will be out other than its a forthcoming release on Chase and Status' label MTA, but will update this if I find out.

If you like this one check out Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and perhaps even Buraka Som Sistema for a similar style.

Track of the Week - NY Stomp

I'm going back to a house record this week... been loving this one for a couple of weeks but heard it out a few times over the bank holiday weekend and knew that it was definitely one to share.

The NY House Track is deep house at its best, with a killer groove, great chord sequence and short vocal loop. Anyone that know's me will understand this is right up my street!

NY Stomp is the new alias for dutch DJ and producer Gerd and the NY House Track is out on UK based Illusion Recordings.

This one has definitely got legs and I think we'll be hearing it in clubs all summer!

Track of the Week - Kwes

I've got this great new track for you this week and its a different sound to anything else out at the moment.

Kwesi Say, or Kwes for short, is the latest signing on Warp Records, with artists on their books such as Aphex Twin and Maximo Park. If you love your music, you may know the name as this guy from Lewisham is not new to the scene. He's been producing and remixing for some time now and has worked with the likes of The XX, Zero 7 and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

Bashful is the debut release from Kwes on his forthcoming EP Meantime out on 1st May. I think the track is clever - its melodic and soulful but at the same time has an interesting electronic sounding beat.

I for one cannot wait to hear what else this guy has to offer...

Track of the Week - Santigold

I've not chosen a dance track this week as I've been loving the sounds of Santigold on her new record.

She has been compared to MIA (she toured with her on her debut album) and you may know her for L.E.S. Artistes and Lights Out - two of my favourite tracks off her first album Santogold from 2008.

If you're as confused as I am whether it should be Santo or Santi, she was actually forced to change her artist name to Santigold in 2009 after legal action from a jewellery company with the same name!

Disparate Youth is catchy as hell and if this is anything to go by I have high hopes for the rest of the album Master of My Make Believe out on 25th April.

Track of the Week - B-Traits feat. Elisabeth Troy

Some of you may find this cheesy as hell and given that its getting loads of Radio 1 airtime I am a bit slow off the mark... But with the sun shining and the car window open I've fallen hook line and sinker for this one.

You're forgiven for thinking you've been transported back to the early 90's as this track reeks of an old school rave with such a massive piano breakdown.

With another nod to the 90's, Fever is bringing girl power back with avengence - the track is by B-Traits a female DJ from Canada signed to Shy FX's label Digital Soundboy and features vocals from Elisabeth Troy, a garage vocal veteran who was working with the likes of MJ Cole back in the days when I still played with Sylvanian Families and my A La Carte Kitchen.

Apologies for the intro over the top of the video - its the only full length version I could find online before its release on 25th March.

Track of the Week - Lucas Rezende and Jnazz

While browsing Soundcloud this week I stumbled across what appears to be a little gem of a label for the house music lover.

London based Purple Sun Records seems to have a relatively small following in the world of digital media but based on the releases that have come out in the last month alone I think the label deserves some attention.

I was hard pushed to choose which track I liked best, having a lot of love for Gabriel Slick's - On Some Funky Shit, but in the end settled for this house sensation called Soul Aquanauts which was out on the label on 22nd January.

This is soulful track has a great groove and is reminiscent of something Miguel Migs or Jay J might have put together - high praise indeed.

Track of the Week - Shur-I-kan

Now those of you who know me will know that the monthly podcasts from Shur-I-kan are a firm favourite in my car as he's always bang on the money with some of the finest new deep house out there.

This week is no exception with his latest remix out on Loco Records, The Rusty Piano by Karol XVII and MB Valence. The Polish duo are responsible for the absolutely corker of a record - Snatches (my personal favourite is the Soul Minority Remix - which you can listen to here)

Featured on his January 2012 podcast and released this week (26th February), Shur-I-Kan's remix is deep, full of groove and with a name like that obviously has an awesome piano hook...

Track of the Week - Wild Belle

Moving away from my usual first choice of house music, I'm going for something a bit different this week.

Introducing the debut single from Wild Belle - American brother and sister duo, Natalie and Elliot Bergman. The band have already been making a name for themselves Stateside and this reggae sounding hit titled Keep You is released in the UK today.

There's something about this track that I think shouts of Mark Ronson production from his Version days. I'm loving the haunting guitar reverb and funky horns section...

Track of the Week - Real Nice & Cubiq

This week's track isn't brand new by any means but isn't necessarily something that everyone might have heard.

I'm taking it in a deep house direction (my favourite) and supporting local new music with this absolute corker on Leeds label Love Not Money Records. 

Had Enough is the debut release from Real Nice and Cubiq and is only the second release from the label out in December last year. The duo are both classically trained producers so the finished product is near musical perfection - at least to my ears! Great piano hook as well as the vocal from Richard Sonsom.

Track of the Week - 14th Music

London producer and singer duo Tom Barber and Tracey Duodo make up 14th Music and I'm predicting big things for them this year.

Take Me There is the follow up to Hide Yourself, their debut 4 track EP released in November 2011. With a distinctly modern garage sound, the two step beat on this track is complemented perfectly by Tracey's soulful vocals. I think it works well as something I could chill out to as well as dance to.

Take Me There is released on February 13th 2012. Catch them early at the following gigs in the coming weeks:
